Oh, no, those Pirates are back!

January 8, 2010 at 3:18 pm

Pirates Don’t Change Diapers by Melinda Long, illustrated by David Shannon; published by Scholastic, New York; 2007.

Older children will probably recognize David Shannon’s illustrations in this wacky reunion between Jeremy Jacob and his pirate pals. The story is a riot and the pictures rollick along changing perspective, filling the page and then only peeking through the text.

By enlarging the dialog of the pirate crew, children can be encouraged to chime in and join the gang. The text mandates that readers invoke their inner pirates to tell the tale of pirate babysitters.
