No Jumping on the Bed!

January 7, 2010 at 9:47 pm

No Jumping on the Bed! by Tedd Arnold; published by Dial Books for Young Readers, New York; 1987 & 2000.

Walter is not ready for bed and when he hears his upstairs neighbor jumping, he decides to jump on his bed as well. What ensues is a rip-roaring trip through the apartment complex in repeatable rhymes. Arnold’s artwork, watercolors and colored pencils, uses different perspectives to help tell the story of falling, falling, falling.

The pattern of the rhyme as it grows makes this an ideal read aloud as children are encouraged to join in the building tension of Walter’s fall.
