Learn about fractions? Sweet!

The Hershey’s Milk Chocolate Bar Fractions Book by Jerry Pallotta, illustrated by Rob Bolster; published by Carwheel Books, an imprint of Scholastic, New York; 1999.

This “sweet” book uses an irresistible force to teach about fractions—a Hershey’s milk chocolate candybar!  Learning math is easy when you use images of a Hershey bar, complete with its little rectangular sections.  Fractions are written in large, colored type on the top of the pages.  The candy bar is used to help visualize the fraction.  The text is easy to read and understand, and paired with the illustration, the concept of fractions is made easy—I rather prefer chocolate fractions to pizza fractions!

I would use this book in an upper-elementary kit about chocolate or in a pathfinder to help parents and teachers reinforce this math concept.
